Reasons why you should drink more red wine

A few years ago I use to be a big fan of wine. I use to have a glass or two at social gatherings and with my meals. It wasn’t until recently that learned that wine actually is good for the body. I mean it is dried up grapes! It shouldn’t be bad after all. I was recently invited to a wine tasting healthy heart event and I couldn’t understand why the two themes went together.  After doing some research, I have found that wine is actually healthy for the health in several ways.

Various studies have shown that moderate amounts of all types of alcohol benefit your heart, not just alcohol found in red wine. It's thought that alcohol:

  • Raises high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, the "good" cholesterol
  • Reduces the formation of blood clots
  • Helps prevent artery damage caused by high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, the "bad" cholesterol[1]

Red wine has also been linked to:

  1. Lowering the risk of type 2 diabetes
  2. Assisting in maintaining a healthy immune system
  3. Helping to regulate the cholesterol levels in your blood stream[2]

As wonderful as these benefits may sound, please understand that everything must be taking in as moderations. Plus, drinking wine alone will not help improve your health. You still have to exercise, eat a well balance meal, and see your doctor annual for checkups.  But I will say I will be adding a glass a day to my menu #Cheers
