LCC was fortunate to meet up with the talented and busy blog talk radio host Mecca and here is what she had to say:
LCC: How did you first get started with talk radio?
Mecca: Media has always been my passion. I have a degree in Journalism and I used to call into Power 105.1 in New York when Ed Lover had his morning show. For some reason getting on the airwaves wasn't a problem for me. "MeccaFromUptown" became a regular, calling in, and asking celebrities great questions. At that time all the radio personalities in New York knew me but I wasn't offered an on-air position. I never imagined having my own show, thinking that I would be a part of a morning show team. Being a creative person it was easy for me to format a show. Now almost 4 years Later, The Mecca James Show is going strong.
LCC: What is the best part of doing radio?
Mecca: The best part would be booking guests and be able to ask questions that would reveal who they really are without the smoke and mirrors.
LCC: What is the worst part of talk radio?
Mecca: Unfortunately as stated earlier, there's smoke and mirrors. Many are fronting in this business. Getting and maintaining sponsorship is also an obstacles
LCC: What advice can you give a newbie breaking into the business?
Mecca: Put quality work out, be patience, be consistent and build your brand.
LCC: As a radio personality, what are your future goals?
