The Circle You Keep

the circle you keepAs a child my mother always told me to pay attention to my surroundings when I am out public.  That means pay attention when I cross the streets, look for exit signs if I’m in big arenas, take heed to the people around me if I’m in a crowded area.  The whole point is to pay attention to what’s around me.

As a grown woman this concept of paying attention to my surroundings has a deeper meaning.  It’s more than watching those around you; it’s about who I decide to stay around.  We all heard the old cliché’ “birds of a feather flock together.” I find that to be an accurate statement.  People tend to hang around those they can relate to, people that are on their same level, people that can understand them, and people that share the same interest.  People want to be around like minded individuals and with that come a story of who you are. As the old saying goes, “show me who you hang with I’ll show you who you are.”  Who you hang around with tells a juicy story about who you are.

We all have friends from childhood that are more like relatives. Those are people we consider “ride or dies” they were there before you had what you had and they will be there afterwards.  However, those should also be people that do not bring you down. They may not be on the same level as you and that’s okay, but they also should try to bring you off your level. Who you surround yourself with influences how high you rise. Read more

30 Day Fitness Challenge

30daychallengeYou always hear you must exercise and eat healthier, but rarely do we even do it. We sign up for the gym, get a personal trainer, purchase DVD tapes, buy fabulous workout attire, and after day 5 of the routine we are ready to quit.  Whelp, basically I just described to you my life. Lol. I’m not ashamed. I know I have work to do. For starters, I learned I work better in groups. Choosing a gym that offers exercise classes work best for me. Secondly, I need a schedule and a routine. I hate going to the gym wandering aimlessly around the equipment without a plan is useless for me.

Knowing yourself is just half of the battle, once you recognized what works for you; next step is creating a schedule and routine.  Figure out your fitness goals and what areas of your body you wish to target.  Once you know what you want to do, finding the information to do it will come easier.  After that you are all set to go.

Now, like most people, we make excuses or as some people say, reasons. Either way, you aren’t getting it done.  I, like most people, always claim work is in the way and I do not have time. After realizing I was making this excuse I decided to do some web research to find a fitness routine that can accommodate my fitness goals and desires as well as my busy schedule. And, that’s when I found the 30 Day Fitness Challenge website. Read more

Are You Running The Winners Lap?

finish lineIf you know me, or want to get to know me, you will find that I am known for making extreme analogies when it comes to comparing stages of life. When I feel someone doesn’t fully grasps a concept, I try to change the scenario to a level that will make it easier to understand. With that in mind, I started to think about the victory lap in a race. Have you ever watched a race and/or ran in a race, did you ever notice the victory lap that the winners run at the end? Oddly enough, I’ve always pay close attention to the victory lap. Why you ask? It’s because the appearance of victory is appealing to me. I love to see people conquer their goals. The expression of defeating something that more than likely someone said you couldn’t is always attractive.

Have you every conquered or achieve anything? Do you remember your expression? I’m pretty sure it was passionate. When you work really hard at something and it finally pays off you can’t help but be filled with joy. BUT here is the kicker with the victory lap. In order to run the victory lap, it means two points; one, you RAN the race and two, you WON. Those two key factors are very important to understand. In order to get to the point of victory you have to be IN the race, and once you’re IN the race you have to WIN the race. Read more
