Food For Thought… Fairytales

Since we were little girls we were told that we are little princesses and watch Disney movies and other cartoons that told the story of princesses overcoming person obstacles and finding their prince charming, being swept off their feet, finding love at first site, being pursed, and living happily ever after. Then we get a little older, our teen years, and we watch the teeny popper movies. Now instead of cartoon characters we are watching real actors and actresses in high school settings portraying the same stories. Overcoming person obstacles, finding themselves and falling in love with the cute guy in school and having a happy ending. Then as adults we begin to read books as well as watch movies with once again the same storyline.

Most women grow up wanting a fairytale life, with a fairy tale husband/partner, and a fairytale job. Is that because of the “entertainment” we grew up with? Have these stories mislead us into thinking we can have a fairytale of a life? Don’t get me wrong, there are a handful of women out there who can say they have found their prince charming and live the life they have always dreamt of, but what about the rest of us? If we had more stories that didn’t always have the perfect ending, or that showed more struggle would it have still created a false sense of reality for us? I also wonder, would a fairytale life and prince charming be more possible if young men were told they were princes, just like we were told we were princesses? If our young men were taught the etiquette and manners and viewpoint that a young prince would have been taught would they all then treat us like princesses and allow us to live our fairytale dreams?

Keeping Your Cool

How many of us have a job that urk our last nerve? Where we feel like at any minute we can lose our cool? Almost everyday you are ready to just get up and say forget you forget this job I am out!!!!

There are so many reasons why we need to hold on to jobs that we can’t stand. Some of those reasons may be bills, loans, family, lifestyle, ect. What can you do to help get yourself through those rough times at work that make you want get up and leave? Well there are several things you can do. You can always use the mental approach. Constantly tell yourself you need the money, or the experience, or when all is said and done this will make you a better person. I know at times that its just not enough, but you must push through to get to a better place. For those times when your boss or a client or a co-work is working that last nerve, or talking to you in a tone that you don’t appreciate or they may even be trying to get under your skin on purpose, give them the opposite reaction they are looking for. Entertain yourself by being as correct and polite as possible. By you doing so, it makes them more upset because they aren’t getting a rise out of you. You are entertained because they are getting frustrated and all they can say is you are such a polite person. In the end who wins? YOU!

As women we have more to prove in the work place and many people, mostly of the male sex, feel that we are not capable of certain jobs or deserve the same respect as them in the work place. Never let them get to you, because you will just be labeled as another angry woman. Although you may not like your job, don’t let it show. Put a 110% into what you do as a showcase to your next job, hopefully a job you’ll love, will see what a great employee you are.

Be strong, be tough, and instead of letting them work your nerves… Kill them with kindness.

Seasonal Change

Seasons Change

As the summer time comes to an end it’s time to begin switching to the autumn wardrobe, the sunny days are getting shorter, if you’re in school classes begin and it’s just a time to convert into a new element.  Autumn is my favorite season.  The weather is just right and the fashion is just to die for, cool with a nice breeze yet sunny skies. Leaves begin to change colors and once again nature has taken its course.  As the seasons change,  it’s a perfect time to briefly reflect on the previous season and begin your strategy for the next.  I recently became obsessed with vision boards.  It’s a visual stimulation with pictures, words, phrases, quotes, magazine cut outs, anything stimulating to the eye that reflects on your goals and motivations.  I find it very beneficial to picture yourself with your dreams accomplished and then you’re motivated to see them through.

So as the season begin to change, reflect on your life, how it is currently and where you would like it to be and put those thoughts and feelings into action.  So embrace the change and have fun in all that you do.
